Letters of Gratitude

  • Rhoades Foundation 141 South Rancho Santa Fe Road Encinitas, CA, 92024 United States (map)

Thank you for your support and for helping our veterans and service members feel appreciated through these heartfelt messages!

In honor of Veterans Day, our Letters of Gratitude initiative invites students to share their appreciation for active-duty service members and veterans. Homeroom teachers will set aside time for students to participate at school. Younger students are welcome to make cards, drawings, or patriotic coloring pages with a short message of thanks. Students may also write additional letters at home, with no limit to how many they contribute!

Please keep messages general and undated so they can be shared throughout the year. Do not include personal or identifying information beyond the student’s first name and age. Homeroom teachers will collect submissions by November 6, and the Rhoades Foundation will gather them from all three campuses and send them to Operation Gratitude.

Few Simple Guidelines

  • Begin with “Dear Service Member,” “Dear Veteran,” or “Dear Hero.”

  • Share a positive message of gratitude.

  • Keep messages undated and avoid references to specific holidays.

  • Do not include personal or identifying information beyond the student’s first name and age.

  • Avoid politics, religious content, and glitter.

  • Do not place submissions in individual envelopes.

  • Click here for helpful letter-writing guidelines.

Turn In by November 6

Please submit letters, cards, and drawings to your child’s homeroom teacher. A collection bin will also be available at the Lower School front office.

Thank you for helping our students show those who serve that they are appreciated!
