On Friday, September 29th, Dr. Adria O'Donnell visited The Rhoades School and presented to parents and then to students in grades 4-5 and 6 & 8. She will return in the spring to meet with 7th graders, who were in Catalina last week.
Dr. O'Donnell's focus was on helping children "navigate their social and emotional" worlds. She provided parents with very useful information on the importance of stepping back and allowing children to face adversity, as means of building independence and grit.
In Dr. O'Donnell's "Brave Talk" student workshops, she taught children how to identify and manage anxiety and ways to handle conflicts with friends, while addressing the special and nuanced issues relating to social media. Be sure to ask your children (who heard her speak) about the terms "Brave Talk", "Truth Island", and "Worry Bully".
