PB&J Donation Drive

We wrapped up our Service Learning events for the year with a PB & J donation drive in coordination with the InLight Institute., benefiting the San Diego Food Bank!

Our 1st and 5th graders collected 153 jars of peanut butter and jelly in support of our cause!

They helped pack it all up today, for delivery to the San Diego Food bank.

The San Diego Food Bank was thrilled with such a thoughtful donation!

In support of this, our buddy classes also created posters to hang around the school as a reminder to other to bring in items.

The PB&J Challenge project is part of the Care Hard Program by InLight Institute to promote service learning, character education, and community building at The Rhoades School.

This project is intended to bring awareness and offer support to those who face food and nutrition insecurity. One in four people in San Diego County experience nutrition insecurity as they are unable to consistently provide three nutritious meals a day for themselves or their families. Additionally, many students in our greater community rely on free or reduced-price meals during the school year. As we approach the end of the academic year, we want to help reduce the adverse effects of summer hunger on these families by offering nutritional resources.
