Our GIANT pumpkin has a name!
This was a very important week for our GIANT pumpkin!
First, it needed a name. All students were able to suggest a name, and one was chosen at random. Reviewing the name suggestions was so fun! We had a few patterns emerge. Most thought our pumpkin was male. Our 4th and 5th graders must have been studying odds in math class, because there were several of the same suggestions, with the hops they had a better chance of their name being chosen. Many of the suggestions included “pumpkin” in the name, or were a play on words. We could have had Sir Pumpkin, Mr. Pumpseeds, Mr. Orange, Orangy, The Big One, Biggy, Giant Pumpkin, Orangy, or even Jack-o-Lantern. Some suggested a traditional name, such as Bob, Bobby, Tim, Tom, or Timmy…. or perhaps Dominique! Some other favorites included Lord Gourdamort, Venti Size Pumpkin Latte, and An Oddly Small Pumpkin.
And the winning name was The Pumpkin Guy! This was the suggesting of Vince in 5th grade.
The following day, it was time to reveal how much our GIANT pumpkin weighed. Again, we had a very wide range of guesses. Some very small. Some incredibly large. Some very exact, and some very heavy on the mathematical notation. Our GIANT pumpkin this year had a very exact weight of 140.0 lbs. Knox in 5th grade had the winning guess of 137 lbs. Great job Knox!!
Just a few more days until our pumpkin is raffled off and gets to go home with one lucky Rhoades family. Good luck!!!
