Inaugural Rhoades School Chess Classic
The Foundation understands that our community of students is diverse, and we want to encourage students who enjoy chess to participate in an afternoon of playing with their friends! We hope your student will join us for a FUN afternoon of playing chess at our Inaugural Rhoades School Chess Classic.
Date and Time: April 10th from 3-6 pm
Location: Lower School Auditorium
For those students interested in testing their chess prowess, here is how the Chess Classic will run:
The Chess Classic will be run in 5 rounds. Everyone plays all 5 rounds. Players with similar scores are paired each round (no one is eliminated).
The player(s) with the highest total points after 5 rounds are the winners.
Each game will be approximately 15 minutes.
For those students interested in learning more about chess, or who may not be ready for a chess tournament, we will offer a Non-Competitive Social Play opportunity, where there will be no winners. Students will play in teams and have fun cheering each other on.
Categories of play:
Competitive:
Grades 2–5 (Group A)
Grades 6–8 (Group B)
Non Competitive Untimed Social and/or Team Play:
All grades (Group C)
The Foundation is excited to sponsor this new event at Rhoades. Please consider signing up early! Space is limited to only 40 players.
Please note: players in K, First, Second, Third, and Fourth Grade will need to be chaperoned throughout the entire event. Players in 5th grade and above need only be checked in and checked out at the start and end.
